Glory

Andrew Sherwood

Andrew Sherwood, October 2014

What is it?

Glory is a Christmas song like no other. Over-the-top doesn't even begin to describe it! It was the brainchild of my friend Andrew Sherwood, back in 2009. I then arranged and played it according to his wishes ... and on the two occasions where we did use it in church services, it brought the proverbial house down in the best possible way! Neither Andrew nor I can now remember the original lyrics, so I have re-invented it with some of my own.

Why the kitten? Simple: apparently it's possible to boost the sales of anything by including kittens ...

Lyrics

Ring all bells, away with sadness,
Christ the Lord has come to Earth!
Let all hearts rejoice with gladness
At the Saviour's birth.
Come, you shepherds, and adore him,
You have heard the angels' call;
Come, you kings, and bow before him
Saviour over all!

Glory in the highest heaven!
Glory to the King of kings!
Glory! Come and join the praises
And know that Jesus,
Jesus the Messiah, reigns!
In the skies the angels singing,
"Peace on Earth, goodwill to all",
Here on Earth those bells are ringing:
Still the angels call!
He will come one day in glory,
Over everything to reign.
All creation tells his story:
Jesus is his name!

Glory in the highest heaven!
Glory to the King of kings!
Glory! Come and join the praises
And know that Jesus,
Jesus the Messiah, reigns!

Andrew - pianist's view

As seen by the keyboard player!

Andrew Sherwood is a superb guitarist and he comes up with some pretty good songs. Back in 2009 he was sitting in my music room with his guitar. "I've got this idea for a song" he said and proceeded to strum it through. It was certainly catchy so I asked him what he wanted me to do with it. "Throw the kitchen sink at it," he replied, "I want church bells, sleigh bells, brass bands, guitars, strings ... the works!" "Bapgpipes?" I suggested, trying to be helpful. Andrew grinned. "Yeah, them too!" So I did and this was the result. Now, many years later, neither Andrew nor I can remember his original lyrics but it's far too good a song to be forgotten so I made up some words of my own. It's easily playable, if you'd like a lead sheet just let me know.
